The International Motion Picture Almanac 1937-38

Lucille Ball told producers she was born in Butte, Montana, because she thought it sounded more interesting than Jamestown, New York.

She started making movies in 1933 (without screen credit) in “The Bowery” for United Artists.  Also in the film were Irving Bacon, who would later appear as Ethel Mertz’s father Will Potter on “I Love Lucy,” and Charles Lane, who would make six guest appearances on the show as well as playing Banker Barnsdahl on “The Lucy Show.”
